The anchored trend
All aboard as summer sets sail; Nautical is here to stay. Drifting away from the ‘Royal Navy recruit’ to the more refined ‘Yacht club’ look, it is underplayed, it is at ease and it is playful.
The signature stripes are splashed with touches of beige, cream and red whilst navy takes authoritarian command in a shade just short of black. Detailing includes touches of gold, buttoning and embroideries and the look calls for strong yet simplistic accessories.
The perfected nautical statement will have you sailing the fashion sea in style – and you don’t need to own the yacht.

No 'Vogue' for Africa
African photographer Mario Epanya's proposition of an African edition of Vogue has been rejected by publishing house, Condé Nast.
Epanya, who created fictitional covers and editorials for his campaign, posted on his Facebook page: "DEAR ALL. The Wait is over. Condé Nast said NO to an African license of VOGUE. So this is the last cover. Enjoy, but it's a beginning of something."
African-American lifestyle site Madame Noirewrites: "Obviously, Vogue can still get away with a few editorials featuring Africans and African Americans sprinkled here and there. Although their "Black Issue" flew off the magazine racks in 2008, are you really surprised that Conde Nast rejected the idea?"
Some of those commenting on the story have called on Africans to boycott the other 18 international Vogue editions and opt for local magazines, such as Arise, instead.

Sunglass Hut Style Scoop: Madonna and Dolce& Gabbana present MDG.
Madonna and Dolce& Gabbana present MDG, the first sunglass collection personally designed by the singer in collaboration with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.
Sunglass Hut will be launching the MDG collection in South Africa in July 2010. Bearing the dazzling MDG logo, the collection marks Madonna’s first foray into the world of eyewear. According to Domenico Dolce and Steffano Gabbana, “Designing an eyewear line with Madonna was a new experience for us. The oversized and wrap around designs are sexy and very feminine. Madonna’s creative contribution and unique point of view were key, even in designing the MDG logo”
The collection
The MDG collection represents a very feminine, super cool sun collection boasting broad shapes such as wrapping, oval and squared with cutting-edge, easy-to-wear designs. The fancy shades are well balanced with more sober colors and distinctively marked with the new MDG logo on the temples.
MDG ad campaign
Madonna will be the face of the MDG ad campaign. Shot in New York by Steven Klein, the
campaign features Madonna as the mysterious and sensual star of a noir film caught on camera in the company of an intriguing man played by super model Tyson Ballou. To lend a cinematographic feel, the campaign was shot with a video camera and the snapshots appear as frames of a short film while the layout of the prints recalls that of an old-fashioned movie film. The voyeuristic images metaphorically evoke the essence of a star such as Madonna: admired, spied, adored, pursued and desired, but never fully revealed, shrouded as she is in dark glasses and mystery.
Home to the worlds top sunglass brands and with over 100 stores, Sunglass Hut is brings this exciting new collaboration to South Africa. Fans and style icons alike are now able to get their own piece of Madonna.

How to Pack for a Stay in the Kruger National Park
A stay for a few night in the Kruger Park in South Africa requires careful planning. The Park will never disappoint the visitor and this list should help you to be prepared for a memorable stay!
- Make sure you book well in advance as you can only stay in the Kruger Park overnight if you already have a booking. This is easy to do through the Kruger Park central reservations office.
- Find out whether the camp you have booked in at has a restaurant, shop or is a bush camp with neither of these facilities. If your camp does not have a shop or restaurant make sure you take food for your stay.
- Buy a map of the Kruger Park so you can plan your route carefully.
- Make sure your vehicle is full of fuel before you depart.
- Pack the following: charcoal, firelighters, matches, corkscrew and bottle-opener & food and drink ( including alcohol!)
- Take your own water as the water at the camps is not drinkable.
- Pack your digital camera and the charger.
- Take a pair of binoculars for each person and identification books!
- Pack toiletries including loo roll!
- Take torches as the camps are dark at night.
- Pack cool clothes for the day - neutral safari colours are best. Several layers are a great idea as it is cod in the early morning but soon gets very hot.
- Take a fleecey with you for the evenings as they can be cold during the South African winter months.
- Wear strong boots if you intend to go on a walking safari with a guide.
- Take a hat to keep your head cool and for use at sunset when the sun is very low in the sky.
- Take a good mosquito repellent, we use Bug Geroff products which was developed for use in the Kruger Park.
- Take prophylactics to guard you against malaria if appropriate.
- Take a basic first aid kit which contains tablets for upset stomachs!
Tips:
- Try to use products that the local use as they are made for that type of terrain, Rogue hats , boots & bags and Bug Geroff insect repellent are great options.
- Speak to the local pharmacist in the area about anti-malarial prophylactics, they will be able to advise you whether they are needed and which ones the locals use.
- To recharge cameras etc. pack a block extension lead with a South African plug on the end so you can always charge your UK devices!

How to Pack for a Trip to Africa
Going to Africa? We will help you to know what to pack.
Documents:
- Know which documents to take. At a minimum, you should have the following:
- Passport
- Visas - ask your passport office what visas are required for the relevant African countries for someone of your citizenship. Do this well in advance (in case you need to wait for visas).
- Travel insurance
- Cash - do not rely on being able to use automatic teller machines when traveling. Some places may not have them and others may not be functioning. Always have a second source of money. It also helps to have small US notes to give to people as tips, thank yous and to buy small articles.
Clothing:
- Choose appropriate clothing. For most African countries, lightweight clothing that can handle humidity and heat are suitable. But don't forget the right gear for colder climate times too, such as winter in Morocco or climbing into mountain regions.
- Pack. The following list is a helpful indicator to guide your packing:
- 1 long sleeved shirt
- 2 light long trousers
- 2 skirts/dresses
- 3 T-Shirts
- 2 shorts
- 1 swimsuit
- 1 small towel (get the type that is really small and expands with water, or choose camping/bike towels which are small but efficient; great for removing sweat)
- 1 hat
- 3 pairs of socks
- Cotton underwear and socks

- water bottle
First Aid and Toiletries
- Find out what medical concerns might arise when traveling in Africa. Malaria, dengue fever, and a host of other diseases are of concern. Be sure to know the proper precautions and to take the right medication, including adequate amounts of medication that you take regularly. Also take scripts with you in case you are questioned for holding medication.
- Pack some First Aid and toiletry supplies. Some suggestions include:
- toothpaste
