Aamir khan was born on 14 March 1965 in Bandra; Mumbai. His family has been part of Hindi Film Industry for a long time. Aamir first movie was Yaadun ki Baaraat in 1973, he came on screen as a child artist. His first film as a lead was Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988. It was a big hit. Before that movie aamir fell in love with a girl in his neighborhood Reena. Since she belonged to a Hindu family and him from devout Muslim family, they faced opposition and therefore they married secretly, later they revealed it to the world after QSQT was released.

Amir Hussain Khan (Aamir Khan) is a highly acclaimed film actor, producer and director. He began his career in Bollywood as child actor in the movie "Yaadon Ki Baaraat". Eleven years later he appeared as supporting actor in the film "Holi". Amir Khan debuted as leading actor with "Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak" and won the Filmfare Best Male Debutant Award for his performance in the film. After that he appeared in a number of movies but most of them were unsuccessful at box office. However, he got success with the film "Dil". Thereafter "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander" and 'Rangeela" followed and both the films did well at the box office.

Aamir Khan is back in Mumbai after travelling the length and breadth of India in various disguises.

How was the experience of moving around the country?

It was the most amazing and enriching experience. Which place was the best experience? Was there a problem in Gujarat due to Narendra Modi's ban on you during Fanaa?

Gujarat is not forbidden for me. The entire experience was enriching, wherever I went – Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. There were three layers to this. One was the marketing angle. The other was to connect with my motherland and see my country very closely. It was a rare opportunityfor me. And the third layer was the issues I wanted to bring to fore.

What kind of issues?

For example in Chanderi, I brought the plight of the weavers to fore. One-and-a-half years ago, someone had told me how are weavers are out of job. So the idea to go to a weaver's house was to help the art form stay alive. Also, in Gujarat, I went to a school to show there was free education up to the seventh standard, and the girl child's schooling is encouraged. I wanted to use my presence to highlight these issues.

Was everything planned?

No, I had not planned anything. For example, Varanasi was an emotional experience for me since I went to the place where my mother grew up. I actually decided to spend the night at Varanasi station to highlight the railways, which are the lifeline of the country. But one thing led to another and I went in search of my mother's house. But yes, we had sent four teams to do a recce of all the places three months ago. So the team helped me all along. I was in disguise so my code name was Phantom.

Is there any particular incident that remains in your mind apart from Varanasi?

In Mahabalipuram, there was this guide, Lakshman. I had a problem revealing myself in front of him. He did not watch Hindi films, and the stars he knew were only Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra. He did not know who Aamir Khan or Shah Rukh Khan was, leaving me in a fix. I had to tell him I've been acting for 20 years, and have invited him to the premiere in Mumbai. He will be there.

Shah Rukh Khan has condemned your 'vanishing act'…

Shah Rukh might not agree with what I've done now. But he will realise later that I was right.

Aamir Khan offers olive branch to CM Modi

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan who had earned the wrath of Gujarat CM Narendra Modi after expressing support for the Narmada Bachao Andolan, seems keen to bury the hatchet as he spoke of the "good work" being done in the state by the leader.

The superstar faced the consequences of his comments when his film Fanaa faced a wave of protests across the state and was unofficially banned there. With his much anticipated film 3 Idiots about to be released, Aamir seems keen to avoid a repeat.

Aamir recently visited a school near Ahmedabad and interacted with the children and also shared lunch with them during his promotional tour of his film 3 Idiots.

"Apart from the promotional activity, I also wanted to highlight certain issues. There is some good work happening in the field of education of the girl child in Gujarat. Special emphasis is given on this fact and it is a very good sign. Hence, I visited the school and bring this into focus," said the actor.

Modi had criticised Aamir for his support to NBA saying that non-construction of the dam will deprive people of the state of water. Aamir had refused to apologise saying that he was not against the dam but wanted people displaced by it's construction to be rehabilitated.

His subsequent films had faced heat in the state as theatre owners feared violence and refused to exhibit them.

Aamir Khan does a Rahul Gandhi in MP

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan turned a Rahul Gandhi in Madhya Pradesh when he surprised a weaver by spending hours at his humble house along with Kareena Kapoor, sharing simple home-cooked meals with the family and leaving only two hours past midnight.

Aamir, 44, who has come up with a unique way to promote his forthcoming film “3 Idiots”, called on the surprised weaver Hukum Koli and his wife at their brick-and-mud house in Pranpur village in Chanderi district.

That was on Monday. The actor’s office said he decided to spend quality time with the family along with his co-star Kareena. Both are among the highest paid actors in Bollywood.

And Aamir and Kareena did not waste the weaver family’s time.

Both of them not only wove a sari, with generous tips from the weaver and his wife Kamlesh, but also savoured a meal of pooris and ‘lauki ki subzi’.

The sari made by Kareena and Aamir will go for auction through an NGO, and the money will go for the development of the village. The sari carries the names of both the stars.

“I want to create awareness among the youth to make handloom a more integral part of their wardrobe. It is like wearing Italian shoes because they are handmade. The same goes for handloom,” Aamir told a team of people travelling with him.

Hukum Koli said that both the actors also bought saris for their families. And Aamir promptly gifted one to Kareena too.

Kareena told media persons that it was an NGO that had alerted Aamir about the plight of the weavers and the dying art of Chanderi sari making.

“The saris are sold for thousands in cities but the weavers get only a small fraction of that,” she said.

Chanderi, a town of historical importance surrounded by hills, lakes and forests, is known for its handloom. These off white saris were traditionally made of cotton, but over the years they started using silk threads.

Aamir’s sudden visit to a rural heartland triggered comparisons with Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who earlier taken British Foreign Secretary David Miliband to a village in his Amethi constituency.

The 39-year-old politician had spent the entire night at Dalit Shiv Kumari’s house, while Miliband went to Dalit woman Karma’s place and slept on her cot. Both had dinner with the hosts.

Aamir Khan turns Ganguly fan

In a new stunt to promote 3 Idiots, Aamir Khan dressed up as a young fan of former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly and tried to barge into his house here.

Sporting a black shirt, moppy hair and tattoos, with a bag slung over his shoulder, Aamir looked like any star-struck fan as he tried to enter the Ganguly's south Kolkata residence.

Talking with a protruding chin, he kept pestering the security guard at the gate saying, "Dada ghar pe hain? Mere ko dada se milna hai, photo khichana hai. (Is Dada at home? I want to meet him and get a photo clicked with him). The guard failed to recognise the star and did not let him enter the premises.

But later in the day, Aamir dropped his disguise and finally entered Ganguly's house and joined his family for dinner along with wife Kiran Rao, who is a huge fan of the cricketer.

The couple was welcomed by Ganguly's wife Dona, who had just returned from a dance performance, his mother and daughter Sana.

Aamir looked at all the photographs and trophies and in the house and remarked that the 37-year-old cricketer shouldn't have retired so soon and that he was personally disappointed with the retirement.

Ganguly will read out the fourth clue among the seven, the first of which was read out by another star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

Room to Aamir Khan proves costly for hotel

A hotel in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district is in trouble for providing a room to Bollywood star Aamir Khan without establishing his identity.

Police have served a notice to the owner of Saraswati Hotel, seeking an explanation for "flouting the basic rules for allotment of rooms in a hotel", a police officer said Wednesday.

For promoting his forthcoming movie "3 Idiots", Aamir Khan Saturday roamed around Varanasi district in the guise of an elderly Maulana.

He stayed in the Sarawsati hotel in adjoining Mugalsarai town, some 300 km from Lucknow.

"It's a security lapse. We want to know how the rooms were booked when the claimants did not reveal their true identity. Prior to allotting the rooms, the hotel staff must have checked their ID proof," Chandauli police chief Lakshmi Narayan told reporters.

"Prima facie, it is a clear case of not following procedural norms related to security measures. For this the license of the hotel could be cancelled," he added.

According to police, in the name of Akram Shah and Co, seven rooms were booked for Aamir and his team in the hotel. The actor arrived in Varanasi Friday and headed to other destination Sunday.

Sachin Tendulkar to bat for Aamir Khan

When cricket meets Bollywood, it's bound to be a blockbuster. In this case, it is Aamir Khan and Sachin Tendulkar. When Aamir approached his dear friend and neighbour Sachin with an interesting proposal concerning his next film, the master blaster immediately agreed. Sources close to Aamir said he had a meeting with Sachin in Anjali's presence to be part of a marketing campaign for Aamir's film which will be unveiled just days before the release.

Sachin didn't hesitate a moment to say yes to the marketing gimmick that requires Aamir to go 'missing', with a prize announced for whoever can locate him. He told Sachin Tendulkar that before he 'disappears', he is going to declare that Sachin will have the first clue about his whereabouts and the press would be encouraged to ask Sachin the question -- 'Where is Aamir?'. Sachin has agreed to be a part of this campaign," says a source.

The producer of the film, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, also confirmed that Aamir and Sachin have teamed up for this one. "Honestly, I don't know where Aamir Khan is right now. He told me that I can't keep a secret so he is not going to disclose where he is hiding. He's told his friend Sachin Tendulkar to give out a clue about his first location.Sachin is playing his confidante in this game which makes him the only actor in the world to go missing before his film's release," Chopra says.

Kareena Kapoor, who is Aamir's leading lady in the film, laughs, "Aamir hasn't told me how he's going to play the game he has invented, but he has told Sachin about it." If that was not enough, Aamir has also made an 'Aamir Goes Missing' promotional video on a handycam which also features his wife Kiran, that was shot in his own apartment.

Meanwhile, Aamir organised a private screening of the film for Sachin, Anjali and their children at Ketnav theatre in Bandra on Friday afternoon. Sachin is one of the first persons to see the final cut of the film apart from the crew.

Aamir escapes unhurt after auto collides with vehicle

The auto-rickshaw the actor was travelling (in an old man's garb) in, collided with another three-wheeler ahead of it. The accident occurred when Aamir's driver slammed the brakes as the auto ahead of it tilted while trying to avert a pothole. Aamir was unhurt but one of his two co-travellers sustained several bruises. He was taken to a medical centre and discharged soon after.

Says a source, "At around 5 am on Sunday, while returning from the Dasaswamedh Ghat where he had taken a boat ride, the auto ahead of Aamir's rickshaw tilted due to the potholes on the road. To avoid a collision, Aamir's rickshaw was forced to grind to a halt. Due to the impact, a co-passenger was hurt.

Aamir's publicist confirms the mishap and says, "He was lucky to be saved. He did not sustain any injuries."The actor has been travelling in disguise as part of his marketing blitzkrieg for his forthcoming film 3 Idiots.

The publicist adds, "Two crew members of 3 Idiots are accompanying Aamir. One of them was badly injured and spent five hours receiving medical aid after which which he was discharged."

As part of his promotions for the film Aamir has a launched a reality game to hunt him. Till days before the film releases on Christmas, he will be backpacking across the country and his friends will give clues which would help people locate him. The winner gets to spend New Year's Eve with Aamir and his family.

Aamir Khan to play the lead in ‘Sarfarosh’ sequel

Remember the action packed Aamir Khan starrer blockbuster ‘Sarfarosh’? The film that bagged oodles of moolah and reaffirmed Aamir’s superstar stature at the Box Office will soon be followed by a sequel. Believe it or not but years after ‘Sarfarosh’ went to become a nationwide hit, director John Mathan is set to work on its second part with none other than Aamir Khan.

Keen on making the sequel, the director is presently occupied with the script of the sequel. According to sources, John will meet Aamir Khan to discuss the project but only after he has the final script in hand. Considering the actor’s love for perfection, John doesn’t want Aamir to reject the project over trivial issues.

Confirming the news, John told a news daily, “Hopefully, the script should be ready soon. Only after I complete it and provided I like it, I will talk to Aamir.”

However even though John is convinced that no actor except Aamir will suit his film, he has yet not decided about the lead actress. As for the theme of the movie, the storyline will be based around national security. “The villain in ‘Sarfarosh’, played by Naseeruddin Shah, was not an Indian. In the sequel, John wants to dwell upon the enemy within”, a source said.

Why exactly did Aamir check out this Avatar's promo?

It is learnt that Aamir Khan personally checked out the arrangements for the 3 Idiots' premiere, to be held on December 23 at a city multiplex. Buzz is that he also asked to check out the 'competition' -- Avatar's promo. Is the actor worried that Avatar (releases Dec 18) might affect his film's run at the B-O? Or is the actor simply thinking far ahead and planning to make a 3-D flick sometime soon?

A source present when the actor visited the multiplex reveals, "Aamir did come to the multiplex. It is a known fact that he is a stickler for perfection and was there to check the arrangements being made for the premiere. But it is a common practice with the bigger stars. Even Mr Bachchan came to the multiplex four to five times before Paa's premiere to check the place out." When asked if Aamir checked out the promo of Avatar, the source insists, "He did not."

It's been a year since Aamir Khan's last film (as an actor) Ghajini released. His next, 3 Idiots is due to release December 25 and Aamir is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the film gets the perfect opening.

Of course, 3 Idiots is one of the most anticipated films of the year. And we're sure Aamir isn't at all worried about his film's prospects at the B-O vis-Ã -vis a clash with Avatar, a flick that is by most accounts, one of the costliest in Hollywood. The H-Town flick releases with roughly around 700 prints.

And with the good run that English blockbuster movies are enjoying (2012 did very well in India), is it enough cause for Aamir to be concerned? Or was it just a avid moviegoer's curiosity? Let's wait and see.

Aamir renames 'Shahrukh'

Many people already know that Aamir Khan has a pet dog named Shahrukh. But now, Aamir is not fond of the name anymore and has decided to change it.

Now it’s Shaaki instead of Shahrukh. Aamir last year got a lot of flak when he blogged, “Shahrukh is licking my feet and I’m feeding him biscuits… He is smelling too much. I think he needs a bath,” and created controversy. Though Aamir clarified that he wrote that piece of blog in good humour, after criticism from many quarters he realized that it was probably way off good banter and even apologized for his blog.

Now his pet has a new name and that sounds cute, however, it was wifey Kiran Rao who suggested, “Kiran suggested me not to call it Shahrukh and we mutually decided to call him Shaaki,” Aamir blogs.

Many people already know that Aamir Khan has a pet dog named Shahrukh. But now, Aamir is not fond of the name anymore and has decided to change it.

Now it’s Shaaki instead of Shahrukh. Aamir last year got a lot of flak when he blogged, “Shahrukh is licking my feet and I’m feeding him biscuits… He is smelling too much. I think he needs a bath,” and created controversy. Though Aamir clarified that he wrote that piece of blog in good humour, after criticism from many quarters he realized that it was probably way off good banter and even apologized for his blog.

Now his pet has a new name and that sounds cute, however, it was wifey Kiran Rao who suggested, “Kiran suggested me not to call it Shahrukh and we mutually decided to call him Shaaki,” Aamir blogs.

Aamir's unique marketing strategy for 3 Idiots

Aamir Khan has come up with a unique marketing strategy for 3 Idiots. He has printed stickers for autorickshaws that say 'Capacity: 3 Idiots'. The rickshaws have been introduced in the city and are plying in both central and western suburbs.

These stickers would be seen on around 10,000 rickshaws in cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Gujarat, Jaipur, Kota, Lucknow, Kanpur, Patna, Kolkata, Bhopal, Indore, Bangalore and Chennai.

Hey, Idiot!

A few weeks back, the filmmakers also painted walls of washrooms in certain theatres. There were slogans that said, "you are an idiot" next to the cubicles in the men's restroom. This was part of promoting the film. The latest stint is using rickshaws to promote the film.

Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra says, "The auto-rickshaw is the most popular mode for commuting and works as a wonderful reminder medium. We have used this sticker in all the cities wherever rickshaws are one of the common modes for commuting."

Aamir Khan was sad to lose his eight packs

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan who spent a year buffing up for Ghajini was left heartbroken when he had to lose his famed eight pack abs for his role in 3 Idiots.

The 44-year-old actor spent six months losing weight for the film where he plays Rancho, an IIT student, with a normal physique.

"I had to lose weight for the role because I am playing a normal student and a buffed up look would not have worked. But it was heartbreaking to lose the entire year's hard work that had gone into building my body for Ghajini," said Aamir who was in the city to unveil a song from the film, called Sunshine.

The actor said that he was "scared" about playing a young college student in the film and therefore worked hard on his look in the film.

"I had to play a 22-year-old college student and the very idea was scary because I am 44-years old. I wanted to look as small in the film as possible, so I lost all the weight and also walked with a bit of a hunch," said Aamir.

The film by Rajkumar Hirani marks the reunion of Aamir, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan who had earlier worked together in the superhit Rang De Basanti.

The three actors said that their looks in the film were created keeping in mind their characters and not vice-versa.

I am the biggest idiot: Aamir Khan

It seems like the 'pucca idiot' effect. Actor Aamir Khan appears to be in no mood to stir up the Khan war again, especially with Shah Rukh Khan, as his next movie 3 Idiots gears up to open this Christmas Day."I am not the emperor. Instead, I am a joker, I am the biggest idiot," he said when asked for a reaction on being called 'the emperor of Bollywood' - that clearly puts him above the 'King' Khan SRK - by his 3 Idiots' co-star Kareena Kapoor.

Last year, besides taking a jibe at Shah Rukh's No. 1 status in Bollywood, he had also termed Salman and SRK as the industry's idiots along with himself.But now, he clearly doesn't want a clash or war of words."Did I really call them idiots? I don't remember," he said while jokingly checking with other journalists if he had really said it. "I feel a person's opinion keeps changing with times. At different points, distinct people appear idiots to you," he said.

Aamir's latest reaction is in sharp contrast to his last year's diatribe. Maybe, all of that had to with the fact that his last year's hit - Ghajini - released in the same month as SRK's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. But this time round, he has no competition. Coming to Salman, Aamir firmly clarified that his blog shouldn't be viewed as a publicity vehicle for his films. "My blog is not meant to promote films," he stated when asked about Sallu's newly- launched blog for his new film, Veer. However, Aamir was all praise for Kareena. The actor, in fact, found her "too pretty" to be called the fourth idiot. "Kareena has worked hard in this film. As a creative girl, she has come across as very clear and evolved," he added.

Aamir was in town on Wednesday to release a new song of 3 Idiots. Though the event was initially slated to kick off at Sri Ram College of Commerce, it was shifted at the last minute to a five-star hotel due to security concerns."I worked very hard for my physique in 3 Idiots after bulking up for Ghajini. I lost all the weight in six- seven months to look like a college boy," said Aamir, who was accompanied by " the other two idiots - R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi." It's not surprising that Aamir took the centrestage even as Madhavan and Sharman looked on.

Unlike Aamir, the two actors could "easily identify with" their roles.Aamir conversely felt he "never experienced college in real life." "I started working right after my school days as an assistant director in films. So, I could never really experience the thrill of college life. But my school life was fun since I was into sports and would always get less marks," he stated.

Low marks notwithstanding, he has a personal take on the education system. "It should help build complete personalities instead of just focusing on results. I think the current HRD minister is taking the right steps," he said.

When Hirani turned down Aamir Khan

Had things gone a different way, we might have seen Aamir Khan playing a man hallucinating about Mahatma Gandhi instead of Munnabhai taking gyan from the father of the nation in Lagey Raho Munnabhai.

“He (Aamir) said he was keen to work with me after Munnabhai MBBS and inquired whether I was working on any script. I replied in affirmative saying I was working on one and would take a couple of months before narrating it to him,” director Rajkumar Hirani tells a news agency.

“I was working on a script about a man hallucinating about Gandhiji. He had met Gandhiji in the 40s and then went into coma. This was the idea that I was developing. The story was becoming serious and then I realised what if Munnabhai met Gandhiji, the story would be light hearted,” Hirani added.

Thus, ‘Lagey Raho Munnabhai’ took shape and Sanjay Dutt was roped in instead of Aamir Khan.

But Aamir’s wish to work with Hirani came true in the director’s third film 3 Idiots. The perfectionist Khan suited the lead role but Hirani still felt embarrassed while approaching Aamir for it because he had turned down the actor previously.

“When we met again for '3 Idiots' he recalled that I had refused to work with him. I was embarrassed as I was honest with him that time,” Hirani recalled.

In ‘3 Idiots’ Aamir plays a 22-year-old college student along with Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. Though the movie is inspired from Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘Five Point Someone’, Hirani says the script has been altered so much that very little of the book now remains in the film.

Lovesick Aamir Khan is pining for wife Kiran

For all those who think it's all work, work, work for Aamir Khan, it's time to think again. The perfectionist these days is busy pining for his wife Kiran Rao even as the release of his next film, 3 Idiots, draws closer. Kiran is currently busy shooting for her directorial debut, Dhobi Ghat.

Lovelorn Aamir writes on his blog: "I'm sitting at my window sipping tea and watching the rain. Sigh... what a day. Wish Kiran was here with me... but she is working on her film in Panchgani." He adds, "Feel like singing that song from Roti Kapda Aur Makan which Zeenat Aman sings to Manoj Kumar. The situation is that it begins to rain and Manoj has to leave for work, to which Zeenat sings : Hai hai yeh majboori, yeh mausam aur yeh doori."

Aamir also talks about his rain song with Kareena Kapoor in his upcoming film, 3 Idiots. "In 3I, too, we have this rain moment in a romantic song. In fact, apart from being a moment in the film for Pia and Rancho, it also pays a tribute to old Hindi films... and one Hollywood film... Titanic. Which is actually a Hindi film shot in English!" Aamir, in the meantime, also seems to have impressed Amitabh Bachchan, who recently invited him to a screening of Paa's promos.

Big B writes on his blog about Aamir: "It was lovely to spend time with him, discuss the film, show him the promo (of Paa), receive his appreciation, talk about his own film (3 Idiots ) and invite him for the premier." A few days ago, Amitabh had posted on his blog: "Aamir comes over tomorrow at my initiative to discuss a few promotional points for our respective films. It is always a joy to meet him. We have always spent time together discussing various topics of common interest and yes, films are one of them."
